On May 20, 2020, Taboom Director Brian Pellot hosted Episode 8 of Digitally Yours, part of the Embassy of Sweden in South Africa’s Live Connection series.
The panel was organized in solidarity with the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOT/IDAHOBIT) and discussed queer creativity as an agent for positive change during the COVID-19 pandemic and connected lockdowns.
Taboom’s regional trainer Carl Collison, regular workshop guest speaker Liberty Matthyse, and new Taboom friends Camilla Gisslow and Toya Delazy also spoke on the panel. It started with a screening of five short films from Carl’s In My Own Voice series. The films draw upon the experiences of queer people from Tunisia, Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, and beyond. The night ended with a live performance from Toya Delazy.
After five days, the panel had already been viewed more than 13,000 times. You can watch it on the Embassy of Sweden in Pretoria’s Facebook page until July 20, 2020.
