Taboom leads LGBTQI+ media engagement trainings across Zimbabwe

HARARE — In November 2018, Taboom Media held four workshops for journalists and civil society leaders in Harare, Bulawayo, and Mutare, Zimbabwe.

Our trainings in Bulawayo and Mutare drew nearly 50 journalists and were conducted in partnership with the National Association of Freelance Journalists. The day-long workshops focused on ethical media coverage of sexual and gender minorities in Zimbabwe.

Our one-day media engagement strategies workshop in Harare for 20 civil society leaders from 10 LGBTQI+ organizations across the country was organized in conjunction with the European Journalism Centre and GALZ (Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe). It focused on developing effective media campaigns and communicating through news media.

Also in Harare, we held a two-day workshop with 21 trainee reporters, editors, and publishers. Journalists came from leading online and offline, independent and state-owned, radio, TV and print outlets in Harare, Bulawayo and Zvishavane. The European Journalism Centre sponsored an evening networking reception for participants from the civil society training and journalism training, along with key external partners in Harare.
